Required Education

Required Related Experience

Applicants must demonstrate academic competency having a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) and have a strong background in ruminant nutrition. The ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others is essential. Demonstration of scientific writing experience and knowledge of statistical analyses is necessary. For international students whose native language is not English, official TOEFL (<2 years old), with a minimum score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), or 79 (internet based) is required. For IELTS, a minimum band score of 6.5 is required.

Job Summary

The ruminant nutrition group in the Department of Animal & Food Sciences at the University of Kentucky is seeking an individual to join the research team as a post-doctoral professional in the Spring of 2022. A 12-month postdoctoral scholar position is available under the supervision of Dr. Kyle McLeod and Dr. Jeff Lehmkuhler. The successful applicant will engage in research investigating various aspects of nutritional strategies and their impacts on mTOR pathway signaling and protein synthesis in livestock. The position includes a monthly salary, fringe and benefits. The academic affiliation of the selected candidate will be the Department of Animal & Food Sciences at the University of Kentucky. The position will be based on campus at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY.

The individual will be required to work with other laboratory professionals to process samples and perform various laboratory analyses. Opportunities to combine applied research with cutting edge exploration using whole animal investigation, mRNA seq, Western blot, and research techniques will be offered. This position will also provide an opportunity to interact with and gain experiences with other professionals in the field.

Preferred qualifications include enthusiasm, excellent written and oral communication skills, professionalism, teamwork ethic, a strong academic record, as well as scientific rigor, and a desire to explore the interaction of dietary factors on physiological responses in livestock. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Skills in biopsy tissue sampling and handling, mRNA extraction, Western Blot and other laboratory procedures. Experience with handling livestock is an asset.
