Reporting to the Executive Director of the Rowland Institute, the physical sciences Research Operations Manager will combine technical and experimental support, design and prototyping, with safety and research operations to enable cutting-edge experimental science across physics, engineering, and materials research.Based full-time in the newly renovated 60 Oxford Street facility in Cambridge, MA, this individual will manage and continually improve shared physical sciences laboratories and fabrication spaces, including a cleanroom, chemistry room, and shared experimental lab spaces. Working closely with the PI, lab manager and research team, the Research Assistant will primarily be responsible for:<ul><li>Collecting behavioral, cognitive, physiological, and neural data from animals alongside researchers.</li><li>Organizing and annotating the collected data.</li><li>Manually annotating datasets to assist in training neural networks used for analysis.</li><li>Writing and updating animal protocols with the help of the veterinary staff.</li><li>Carrying out molecular biology work related to the characterization of the animals.</li><li>Maintain and genotype animal models, perform perfusions, tissue dissection, tissue sectioning, RNA in-situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry .</li><li>Use a range of molecular biology methods including RT-PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning, bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing library preparation and quality control.</li><li>Maintain and transfect cell lines used for cell-based assays.</li><li>Perform stereotactic brain surgeries to deliver viruses for manipulation or knock-out of genes of interest and further behavioral characterization.</li><li>Participation in regular meetings with team members to discuss research progress and strategies.</li></ul>

Examples include (but are not limited to):<ul><li>Overseeing the procurement and tracking of office equipment, maintaining and updating inventory systems.</li><li>Developing and maintaining the supply ordering process and updating as needed.</li><li>Drafting, disseminating, and updating room reservation instructions for the EMS system</li></ul>Program and Event Support<ul><li>Provides support for Center programs, including website updates, and assistance with events such as conferences, lectures, seminars, and public forums.</li><li>Handles logistics such as scheduling rooms and media services, maintaining the Center’s schedule for office and desk use.</li></ul>Other Duties as Assigned:<ul><li>Contributes to the overall success of the Center by accomplishing other tasks or special projects as needed.</li></ul>The faculty assistant is part of the HCB administrative team whose mission is to support the Center’s faculty and students in teaching, service, and scholarship.
